Wilson statement on PDD reassessment
EDMONTON, AB (May 21, 2013): Today, Wildrose Critic for Human Services Jeff Wilson released the following statement on the PC government’s announcement they would reassess plans to cut $42 million in supports for persons with developmental disabilities.
“I’m thrilled to see the PC government has decided to finally listen to the clients, families, and service providers who have been warning them for months about the harmful effects these cuts would have. “We believe stakeholders should always be consulted before controversial cuts like this are made. Since these changes to PDD care were announced in Budget 2013, there have been petitions and protests brought to legislature by various PDD groups and agencies. They were loud and clear, but the government wouldn’t listen, until now. This announcement is a step in the right direction. “Wildrose is committed to supporting our most vulnerable citizens. I sincerely hope the government’s decision to push pause on their plan isn’t just window dressing. Their attempt to download their deficit onto our most vulnerable citizens needs a sober second thought."
