CALGARY, AB (FEBRUARY 28, 2014): Wildrose Health Critic Heather Forsyth made the following statement in response to the Information and Privacy Commissioner’s request that the Alberta government consider amending Alberta’s Health Information Act to include mandatory breach reporting and notification provisions.
“Wildrose supports the findings of Information and Privacy Commissioner Jill Clayton to amend the Health Information Act to provide more protection for Albertans. “Albertans were shocked to learn over half a million patients had their private health information compromised in a recent security breach. Albertans were even more appalled by the lack of notice they received when this occurred and the risks this exposed them to. “I look forward to seeing Health Minister Fred Horne’s amendments in the spring sitting and to working together to improve the protection of Albertan’s privacy.”
