Wildrose Caucus releases binding resolution defending the equality rights and individual freedoms of all Albertans
EDMONTON, AB (November 24, 2014): Today, the Wildrose Caucus approved the following:
“We, the Wildrose Caucus, declare the following statement to be binding as it pertains to the Wildrose Caucus and our actions both in and out of the Legislature.
“The Wildrose Caucus supports, upholds and sustains the values and principles contained in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Alberta Human Rights Act which state that every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, religious belief, colour, gender, physical disability, mental disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, source of income, family status or sexual orientation of that person or class of persons.
“We will also defend, as per the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, every individual’s freedoms of expression, religion, thought, belief, peaceful assembly, and association, and will do everything we can to carefully balance the above rights and freedoms when they come into potential conflict with one another.
“The Wildrose Party constitution states ‘Wildrose will defend the rights and freedoms of all persons.’
“The Party has also passed a policy which reads ‘Wildrose recognizes that all Albertans have equal rights, privileges and responsibilities.’ We believe these statements to include all of the specific groups, rights and freedoms described in the binding Wildrose Caucus resolution outlined above.”
