Towle statement on Seniors' Week celebration
INNISFAIL, AB (June 3, 2013): Today, Wildrose Seniors Critic Kerry Towle released the following statement about the start of Seniors’ Week, a seven-day celebration in recognition of Alberta seniors: “I’m thrilled another Seniors’ Week is upon us.
While we should honour our seniors every day, Seniors’ Week gives us the opportunity to formally celebrate the contributions made by the men and women who built this great province. “Seniors continue to play important, meaningful roles across Alberta. Whether they’re working, volunteering, helping support friends or family, or sharing their wisdom with the next generation, Alberta seniors are valued members of their communities. “Seniors deserve dignity and respect, and Wildrose is committed to supporting Alberta seniors now and into the future. Unfortunately, Alberta seniors have not been a priority for the PC government in recent years. Whether it’s broken promises on home care and long-term care or the seemingly endless quality-of-life issues for seniors in care, this government has shown a sad lack of concern and regard for vulnerable seniors. I hope the government will use this week to take stock of the issues seniors face and commit to taking action to tackle them. “I look forward to joining Seniors’ Week festivities in my community, and I would encourage all Albertans to show their support for our seniors by attending one of the many Seniors’ Week events happening across the province this week.”
