Time to send the PCs a message: Wildrose kicks off campaign for by-election race in Calgary-Elbow
CALGARY, AB (September 24, 2014): Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith officially kicked off the upcoming Calgary-Elbow by-election today by introducing Wildrose candidate Col. John Fletcher and delivering a clear call to action for constituents: It's time to send the PCs a message.
Whether it’s been the PCs' disastrous mishandling of the June 2013 flood response, their broken promises on school construction, or their endless string of scandal and entitlements, Smith said the residents of Calgary-Elbow are ready to let Premier Jim Prentice and the PC government know that it will be tolerated no more.
“It’s time to send the PCs a message. The residents of Calgary-Elbow are telling us loud and clear that they’ve had enough of an entitled government that doesn’t listen to them,” Smith said. “Calgary-Elbow deserves real leadership that puts the needs of their community first, not more of the same failed leadership that created this mess in the first place.”
Fletcher has served in the Canadian Forces as the commander of the reserve army in Alberta, including a stint as the Commanding Officer of the Calgary Highlanders. He has practiced law for over 30 years and has extensive experience working in Alberta’s energy industry.
“I am so proud to have Col. John Fletcher as the Wildrose candidate for Calgary-Elbow. He is a tireless worker with a long and distinguished career in public service,” said Smith. "Throughout his career, Col. Fletcher has always held to his deeply held values of public service, excellence and honesty. It is these values, combined with his experience, that I know will make him a tremendous MLA for Calgary-Elbow."
Fletcher said Calgary-Elbow needs a representative that can once again restore honour and ethics, while focusing on serving the interests of the constituency first.
“Voters have an exciting opportunity this campaign to send a message to the PCs that after scandal, abuse, and broken promises, they’re finally ready for something new and something better,” said Fletcher. “The people of Calgary-Elbow will see a new type of energy in our campaign. We will work tirelessly to earn their support and put forward a vision of Alberta that focuses on restoring trust to the democratic process and having a government that works for them.”
