Statement from Danielle Smith on NDP leadership
HIGH RIVER, AB (October 18, 2014): Today, Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith released the following statement on Edmonton-Strathcona MLA Rachel Notley winning the NDP leadership:
“On behalf of my Wildrose colleagues, I extend my congratulations to Rachel Notley on becoming leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party.
“Ms. Notley has been an effective, principled and tenacious representative for her Edmonton-Strathcona constituents and I know she will bring her talents to bear as leader.
“I look forward to seeing her back in the Legislature and debating with her during the next provincial election as our two parties continue to put forward our policies and visions for Alberta’s future.
“I’d also like to wish all the best to my friend and departing NDP leader Brian Mason. In the short time we’ve worked together as counterparts, Brian has taught me so much about how to be an effective MLA and party leader. Above all, he’s been a constant reminder not only to me but all MLAs that politics should always be about people and standing up for every day Albertans.
“I wish him all the best as he moves on from the NDP leadership.”
