Smith statement on Mayor Mandel's retirement

EDMONTON, AB (May 21, 2013): Wildrose Official Opposition Leader Danielle Smith released the following statement today on Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel’s retirement from politics: “Today marks the end of a distinguished public service career for Mayor Stephen Mandel.

“Over the course of 12 years – nine of them as mayor – Mandel has applied his strong leadership ability and broad vision into improving Alberta’s capital city. Under his leadership, Edmonton has taken substantial strides forward in developing its downtown core, improving its public transit networks and caring for its most vulnerable citizens. On a personal note, I admire Mayor Mandel for his steadfast defence of Edmonton’s interests. Edmontonians have been fortunate to have had such a strong advocate in the Mayor’s chair. “On behalf of the Wildrose Official Opposition, I extend my sincere gratitude for Mayor Mandel’s contributions to life in Edmonton and Alberta and wish him and his wife Lynn all the best in his retirement years ahead.”
