Smith asks Griffiths to extend provincial state of emergency in High River
HIGH RIVER, AB (July 10, 2013): Today, Wildrose Official Opposition Leader Danielle Smith sent a letter to Municipal Affairs Minister Doug Griffiths asking for the government to recall the legislature to extend the provincial state of emergency in High River, which is slated to end on Friday.
"Minister, I am of the view that extending the Provincial State of Emergency is in the best interest of the residents of High River," Smith said. “I acknowledge that such a decision rests with you and with the local Town Council. If however, this decision is being made because of complexities of reconvening the Legislative Assembly, I wish to reassure you that I am confident that all Members of the Legislative Assembly will do what is right for Alberta." Premier Alison Redford, Associate Minister for Recovery and Reconstruction of High River Rick Fraser, Speaker Gene Zwozdesky, all the members of High River Town Council, Liberal Leader Raj Sherman and NDP Leader Brian Mason were copied in the distribution of the letter. The letter in its entirety can be read here.
