Saskiw statement on Bhardwaj resigning from cabinet
EDMONTON, AB (March 13, 2015): Today, Wildrose Justice Critic Shayne Saskiw released the following statement on Naresh Bhardwaj removing himself from cabinet amid bribery allegations:
“Mr. Bhardwaj’s decision to step aside from his cabinet post was appropriate given the serious nature of the allegations he’s facing.
“These types of troubling allegations directed at members of the PC party are becoming all too familiar after 44 years in government.
“The fact is there exists sworn affidavits directed to Premier Prentice, signed and dated on Feb. 21, addressing these allegations, yet no action was taken by either the Premier, the PC party or officials within the PC government to remove Mr. Bhardwaj from cabinet until information became public.
“It seems Premier Prentice turned a blind eye to these allegations instead of doing the right thing in the first place, which unfortunately is the pattern of this government and the very thing he said he wanted to change. Quite frankly, an internal PC party investigation is not enough and Albertans expect more.
“Throughout his leadership campaign, Premier Prentice promised to eliminate these examples of alleged wrongdoings, ethical shortcomings and entitlement. It’s clear now more than ever that the PC party cannot be changed and will continue to be subject to these types of allegations until they are voted out of government.”
