REALITY CHECK: Prentice makes friends of the PCs rich, leaves taxpayers with the bill
EDMONTON, AB (April 13, 2015): Jim Prentice and the PCs have secretly funnelled millions of dollars into the crony Kananaskis Golf Course run by PC party insiders, on top of the millions of dollars they’ve already handed them in a secret, backroom deal.
What the PCs said:
The PCs said that they had only paid $5.4 million to the golf course operators to cover their expenses and revenue losses and that all other payments would be stopped.
What the PCs did:
The PCs actually paid $9.3 million to the golf course operators but they’re refusing to provide a full breakdown of why and they’re refusing to make the contract public.
Jim Prentice continues to refuse to make this sole source contract public. The golf course operators have many close ties to the PC party and the deal is being challenged by industry experts on its ethicality and legality.
It’s shocking to think money continues to go into this crony deal, when thousands of Albertans are still waiting for flood relief from Canmore to Medicine Hat to High River – almost two years after the devastating floods of 2013.
The Wildrose stands for ending secret deals for golf courses and protecting taxpayers. If Jim Prentice can't or won't make this contract public, then it is time to sell the golf course.
On May 5, Albertans have an important choice to make: a vote for higher taxes, higher spending and less services, or a vote for the Wildrose - a party dedicated to no tax increases, and a positive vision for jobs, growth and prosperity. The only way to stop your taxes from going up is to vote Wildrose.
