Put AHS bonuses on ice: Forsyth
EDMONTON, AB (March 27, 2013): The Wildrose Official Opposition continues to urge the PC government to halt the raises Alberta Health Services executives are slated to receive for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Last year, AHS execs raked in $2.4 million in bonuses at the end of the fiscal year.
This year, indications are that executives will again be entitled to collect bonuses, despite ongoing failures to hit performance targets. Wildrose Health Critic Heather Forsyth said if the $2.4 million bonus package was diverted away from executives’ pockets and back into the health care system, it would pay for 20 new nurses and 20 hip and knee replacements. “Albertans are sick and tired of seeing health bureaucrats pocket big bonuses while they continue to miss their own performance targets,” Forsyth said. “This is a slap in the face to taxpayers and it shows that AHS and this government continue to put themselves ahead of patients. Premier Redford has the power to put an end to these bonuses. She needs to show some leadership and do it.”
