New energy Chief registered to lobby against Alberta pipelines
EDMONTON, AB (June 11, 2015): NDP Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd must immediately explain why her new Chief of Staff Graham Mitchell is registered as an active lobbyist against Energy East and other key pipeline projects for Alberta’s industry, Wildrose Shadow Energy Minister Leela Aheer said today.
“This sends a troubling message to our energy industry. Albertans need to have the confidence that their government is working to advance our province’s energy interests, not working against them,” Aheer said. “I hope Minister McCuaig-Boyd will take a clear stance and state unequivocally that she’ll stand up and fight for projects that are good for Alberta jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.”
According to the federal Lobbyist Registry, Mitchell has been lobbying against Enbridge’s proposed pipeline to the west coast and Energy East since Jan. 2015 as interim Executive Director for LeadNow.
“At a time when Albertans are looking for strong leadership, this sends the wrong message,” Aheer said. “Alberta needs people who will stand up for Albertans and ensure our energy sector can prosper.”
