Today, Wildrose Leader Brian Jean released the following statement on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s meeting with Premier Rachel Notley:
“While we appreciate the federal government’s suggestion that it might accelerate returning a portion of Alberta’s tax dollars to the province, I was disappointed Mr. Trudeau failed to announce anything specific and failed to recognize and acknowledge the instability many of his government’s policies are bringing to our energy sector.
“Further delays to the National Energy Board review process, welcomed by the NDP government just last week, have created further uncertainty for the 100,000 Albertans out-of-work or others who rely on the energy sector for their livelihood.
“We continue to be frustrated by Ms. Notley’s silence on the need to remove the tanker ban on the west coast and clearly and forcefully advocate for all of Alberta’s pipeline projects, just as we are concerned that the Prime Minister seems to work hard to avoid saying the word 'pipeline.'
“Together, Energy East, Northern Gateway and Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain expansion would inject $30 billion into the construction industry, and hundreds of billions in further economic spinoffs over the next 30 years.
“Albertans aren’t asking for special handouts, all they are asking for is their governments to support their industry and fairness in how their tax dollars are spent.”
