Jean statement on cancelled NEB hearing: carbon tax isn't buying 'social license'

Today, Wildrose Leader Brian Jean released the following statement after the National Energy Board (NEB) was forced to cancel today’s hearing on the Energy East pipeline project due to a small group of radical activists:

"The protest in Montreal this morning that forced the cancellation of NEB hearings on the Energy East pipeline is the most clear evidence to date of the failure of Premier Rachel Notley's plan to gain social license by increasing taxes on Albertans and capping oilsands development.
"Albertans were told that in exchange for paying $9 billion in carbon taxes over the next five years, projects like Energy East would be given a fair shake by the radical left and its activists within the environmental movement.
"It is crystal clear that there is no appeasement of these groups. There will be no 'social license' gained by taxing Albertans.
"In light of these protests, the Premier needs to take the carbon tax off the table, so Alberta families who are already hurting aren’t punished any further.
"Politicians should put their faith in the science behind pipeline safety, trust the integrity of our world-class pipeline approval process and allow the independent NEB to do its work."
