Smith issues statement marking Remembrance Day
EDMONTON, AB (November 11, 2012): Today, Wildrose Official Opposition Leader Danielle Smith issued the following statement marking Remembrance Day:
“On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians observe two minutes of silence to honour the thousands of our fellow citizens who have sacrificed their lives in military service. Devoted men and women in the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army, and the Royal Canadian Air Force fought in great conflicts in the increasingly distant past.
“More recently, Canadian forces have been peacekeepers all over the world, responding to calls to stand up for freedom, democracy, and human rights.
“And now, with Canada’s ongoing efforts in Afghanistan, remembrance is as important as ever. To date, 158 men and women have been killed through the course of the mission, and hundreds more injured. Our current service members face the same grave risk today as all those who have left a legacy before them.
“We must not forget.”
