Hale welcomes news of possible purchase of XL Foods, calls for food bank donations
BROOKS, AB (October 18, 2012): Wildrose MLA for Strathmore – Brooks Jason Hale released the following statement welcoming reports of new management and the possible future purchase of the XL plant in Brooks.
“I welcome news of the management takeover of the Brooks plant by JBS, and am encouraged with the possibility of JBS acquiring the plant. It is my hope that this will lead to a quick resolution of the plant shutdown and bring stability to the families and producers impacted by the closure.
“The recent news assures consumers steps are being taken to implement the safety measures necessary to produce safe beef products. This is a step forward for resolving the issue and bringing back confidence to the beef industry.
“With the ongoing work stoppage, humanitarian needs continue to be felt at the local level. I encourage people from the surrounding areas to make a contribution to the Brooks Food Bank Foundation to assist any families who may be in need at this time.”
The Brooks Food Bank Foundation is located at 327 3rd Street W, and can be reached at 403-793-2535, or firstname.lastname@example.org. Items needed include food supplies and toiletries, such as razors, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and laundry detergent.
Hale also invites the community to attend a town hall for cattle producers at Bow Slope Shipping in Brooks on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Jason Hale was elected on April 23, 2012 as the MLA for Strathmore-Brooks, and acts as the Wildrose Energy critic.
