Ensure open consultations on water: Anglin
EDMONTON, AB (January 11, 2013): Today, Wildrose Environment Critic Joe Anglin is calling on Environment and SRD Minister Diana McQueen to ensure full, open and transparent disclosure on upcoming consultations on water.
Alberta Environment is set to begin consultations across 20 communities in Alberta on water issues, but a media report today suggests that the Alberta government is keeping key water management issues off the agenda. “Water is a critical issue across the province and Albertans deserve assurance that this PC government isn’t going to manipulate the agenda put forward,” Anglin said. “With this government’s history of pre-determining the results of consultations, we need to know that these consultations will be fully open with all issues available at the table.” Premier Alison Redford had promised these consultations during her leadership bid, but Anglin argues that the consultations in their current format will be just another broken promise. “We cannot afford to get this wrong or for the PC government to manipulate the process to get fabricated results,” Anglin said. The Wildrose believes in clean air, clean land and clean water which includes promoting water conservation and ensuring all municipalities are able to provide safe and reliable drinking water to their communities.
