Danielle Smith statement on National Aboriginal Day
EDMONTON, AB (June 21, 2012): Today, Wildrose Official Opposition Leader Danielle Smith released the following statement on National Aboriginal Day: “National Aboriginal Day is an opportunity for Canadians from coast to coast to recognize the outstanding role Canada’s Aboriginal people play in forming our national identity.
Our nation is stronger, more vibrant and more diverse because of the immeasurable contributions of our First Nations, Metis, Inuit and urban Aboriginal communities. "Here in Alberta, Premier Alison Redford and her government have a lot of work to do to repair the province’s damaged relationship with its Aboriginal communities. Her decision earlier this year to abruptly cancel the Alberta First Nations Energy Centre – an upgrader project that would have created upwards of 7,000 jobs – is symbolic of her government’s ongoing disregard for Aboriginal issues. “Wildrose believes Alberta must strengthen its relationship with Aboriginal leaders through a renewed commitment to open consultation, land-use co-operation, economic development, workforce training and education.”
