Anglin issues statement on train derailment near Gainford

EDMONTON, AB (OCTOBER 21, 2013):  Today, Wildrose Environment Critic Joe Anglin issued the following statement regarding the derailment of nine CN train cars carrying liquefied propane and crude oil on Saturday:

“My thoughts go out to the 100 residents of Gainford and Parkland County who are still currently evacuated from their homes due to the derailment of CN train cars. I hope the situation will soon be stabilized so that families will be able to return home. “I would like to recognize the tremendous efforts of first responders and emergency personnel for preventing any injuries with their quick response, and for preventing possible further environmental damage. The incident is a reminder of the need to push forward with safer means of transporting oil products to market. “Pipelines are not only proven as the safer way to get petroleum products to market, they are needed to increase market access and economic prosperity in Alberta. Further safety measures that are effective and transparent for making rail transportation of petroleum products safer also need to be vigorously pursued to ensure something like this does not happen again.”
