#MASONvSMITH: Wildrose and NDP leaders announce province-wide debate series
EDMONTON, AB (September 4, 2013): Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith and NDP Leader Brian Mason today announced a six-debate series that will have the two political leaders discuss pressing provincial issues and the overall the direction the province would take in a post-PC era.
The debates will take place on campuses across the province during September and October, starting with the University of Alberta on September 18 and wrapping up in Calgary on October 17 at Mount Royal University. “Brian and I think this is a great opportunity to show the next generation of Alberta’s leaders what their province is going to look like once the PCs have been replaced as Alberta’s governing party,” Smith said. “Our two parties have very different visions for how Alberta should be governed, but we both share a conviction that this province can be better. Wildrose believes Albertans are looking for a government that respects tax dollars, eliminates waste and mismanagement, and focuses on delivering good public services.” Student associations on each campus will host the debates. Topics the leaders will discuss include revenue and expenses, the economy, public service delivery and the overall political landscape in Alberta. “The PC dynasty is crumbling and we’ve got to start looking towards what Alberta might look like and how it could be governed once it does,” Smith said. “I’d like to thank the various student groups for organizing and hosting these events and I look forward to positive and constructive debates about the future of our province.” Twitter users are encouraged to follow the debates and participate in them using the hashtag #MASONvSMITH. #MASONvSMITH SCHEDULE: Where: University of Alberta When: Wednesday, September 18 – 7 p.m. Venue: Room CCIS 1-430 Tickets: Students, by donation.
